Interview with Model Misturat Amode. Featured model in Streetwear Fashion Week!

Why did you choose to pursue a career as a model?

I have always wanted to be on stage for as long as I can remember. I started out with school plays back in elementally school and since then I have always enjoyed being on stage. Growing up, I would always watch The Miss World Pageant and I would copy what they were doing. Once practicing over and over, I would go back and show what I practiced to my family members and that was where my nickname miss world came about. I still get called that till this day.

What are your goals as a model?

As a model I want to help pave the way and be a part of the movement of young people who feel and are comfortable in their skin. I hope to represent dark skin models and break barriers set.

Why do you want to work as a model?

I want to work as a model because everything I do gives me life. I love being in front of the camera and I always enjoy walking on stage. The feeling I get from being a model is what makes me want to keep going.

What are your greatest accomplishments so far?

I have naturally always been more reserved and quiet. I believe my greatest accomplishment so far is breaking out of my shell and not being afraid to actively pursue my modeling career.

How do you define success?

I don’t believe that success is a destination but rather a journey. Waking up everyday and doing what you love is success. Success is being able to make a positive impact on those around you and knowing that you made a difference. I believe each person’s definition of success is going to differ depending on his or her goals.

Who is your role model in this industry?

My role models in this industry are Tyra Banks and Naomi Campbell. I admire Tyra banks because of how she does everything so gracefully and you can tell she really has passion for what she does. Tyra Banks has an incredible drive. I have always taken great pride in the fact that I get compared to Naomi Campbell. I fell in love with Naomi Campbell’s fierce personality and the passion she has. I would love to get a chance to work for/with Tyra Banks or Naomi Campbell in the future.

Tell us about your life outside of modeling, who you are as a person?

I am a Nigerian-American, I was born and raised in Nigeria and moved to the U.S at the age of twelve. I am currently a student at the university of Wisconsin-River Falls pursuing my Business Administration-Marketing undergraduate degree. I have an extreme passion for all things modeling and took the initiative to start a fashion club on campus. In my club, we focus on many different aspects of the fashion industry; from modeling to the designers, to those helping backstage etc.
